SCARLETT BY CATHY CASSIDY

Wild child Scarlett is always getting herself into trouble and she's only 12 years old. She's been kicked out of five schools in two years. Though her behaviour may be a result to the fact her parents are divorced. Scarlett has tomato ketchup-coloured dyed hair, a pierced tongue and a stubborn attitude. With her mum on the very last straw, she sends her to southern Ireland to live with her father and his new family, after being expelled from school. Scarlett meets a mysterious boy called Kian who overtime reveals there is more to him that meets the eye. She gradually begins to drop her bad girl image under his influence.

Who is your favourite character in the book?
My favourite character in the book would probably be Clare (Scarlett’s Step-mother) who has a nine year old daughter named Holly and who was pregnant with their new-born daughter named Hazel. The reason why Clare was my favourite character in the book is that she welcomed Scarlett into her home with love and open arms even though Scarlett acted like she couldn't care less about her dad and his new family, living in the middle of nowhere in southern Ireland. Even the time when she pierced Holly’s top lip by accident the kind-hearted Clare forgave Scarlett, what a great step-mother.

What was your favourite part in the book?
My favourite part in the book would probably be the near the end; when Scarlett baby step-sister is born five weeks early and Scarlett has complete transformed in the mature older sister and loves her two younger sisters (Holly and Hazel), no questions asked. She also helped her step-mum finish stitching the quilt for Hazel with all her old clothes, with help from her mother and Holly.

What rating would you give this book our of ?/5 stars?
I would rate this book 5/5 star because it is an intriguing and romantic novel for those who like the rebellious type, this is a book for you. I absolutely enjoyed this book because, when Cathy Cassidy first introduced Scarlett, I'm guessing most people would have thought, with a name like that she obviously going to act fiercely because her name is a related to the colour red. When we think of red we think of anger or blood. Gradually, Scarlett surprises us, as she begins to turn good as the book progresses.
